Episode #233, "Thanks For the Memories" Matt Holden slowly opened his eyes and realized he had no idea where he was. Turns out, some of the drugs he was being forced to take at the West End Psychiatric Facility had been slipped into his food. Once he'd escaped from the facility, he was struck by a sudden drowsiness and had to take shelter in a nearby alley. "I left my money," Matt muttered softly. He'd also had money stashed away in his room, which he had neglected to take while making his exit. He was going to have to go back and get it. As he struggled to climb to his feet, he took a look around the alley. A horrible smell was assaulting Matt's senses, along with the rain that was drizzling onto his head. But he didn't care at all. He hadn't been outside in nearly a year. Not since his mother had brought him to London. He'd confronted her about that. He'd confronted her about his paternity and about the secrets she'd been keeping from him and his father. It was what drove Matt to start using again. But Valerie didn't want to deal with any of that, so she simply made the decision to shut him up. For how long she'd planned to keep him there, he had no idea. But he knew one thing when he got back to Marquette Cove, there was going to be hell to pay. "Hey there pal, call you spare a dime?" "Huh?" Matt turned to find a homeless man lying in the alley, a few feet away from him. "I'm sorry, I don't have any...any money...what the hell?" Matt felt groggy again and leaned against the all of a building to clear his head. That's when he noticed the large gash on his arm. Blood was dripping from it. He must have cut himself when he fell in the alley. "How long have I been here?" Matt wondered aloud. He wasn't met with an immediate response, but a few seconds later he collapsed onto the ground. |
Um... blink and you'll miss the Moore family, this episode wasn't really about them. But weren't things so much happier for them when they didn't know Michael was an evil, kidnapping, manipulative bastard?
I couldn't wait to get Matt back into the series. He'd been gone for the first few episodes, locked away in a mental institution by Valerie. And I'll admit that Eric's early incarnation was used as a replacement for Matt, since I'd gotten myself stuck into this storyline. But this posed a couple problems for me... 1) Eric had last been seen in London, being held hostage with his sister Ariel, before GC's extended hiatus. So how was I going to explain his re-appearance in Marquette Cove? 2) What was to be of Ariel? Simply enough, I used this episode to bring back both Matt and Ariel and I later explained that Eric bartered for his own release but left Ariel behind. Which makes perfect sense for Eric, and in turn allowed me to characterize him differently than Matt. Matt has been bruised emotionally by his family issues, Eric is more of a sociopath. He doesn't really care about anyone but himself. Matt was an integral part of the early series, and soon enough he'll be back in a lead role again, it's just taken longer than I expected. But the days of Matt versus Vince are definitely on their way back, and older readers should enjoy it's resurgence while newer readers will be able to learn more about these two characters as I dive into their history. |
