The series opened up with the deaths of two people at Marquette Cove High School, with sophomore Nicholas Brennan as the culprit. Two days after the murder, Nicholas awoke in an alley with no recollection of what happened. He was later arrested by the police and taken to jail, where a mysterious figure stabbed him to death.

Meanwhile, another mysterious figure arrived in Marquette Cove to keep an eye on Vincent Moore and his friends. The stranger, Antonio, declared that he was a former angel and told Vince that it was his job to protect the town from Blake Thomas, who (unbeknownst to anyone else) was making plans to resurrect his twin brother, Michael Thomas.

Blake's plan wasn't the only thing Antonio needed to worry about, because also occurring in Marquette Cove was Alec Bale's secret relationship with Vince's ex-girlfriend, Jessica Reyes, was discovered by two people; Alexis Lopez plotted to have her English teacher, Ryan Phillips, as her boyfriend; Matt Holden schemed to destroy Vince's life; and Vanessa Watson tried hiding the paternity of her child from Ryan, her ex-boyfriend. Ryan continued to pressure Vanessa about the paternity of her child, leading Vanessa to get help from the true father, Michael Hanley. Having ulterior motives, Michael dismissed Vanessa, telling her that the child was none of his concern. Vanessa also discovered Alexis' diary, which led her to believe that Alexis was pursuing a romantic relationship with Ryan. She took the diary to Allison Gellar, who spoke with Alexis and believed that the diary entry was only a joke. Vanessa wasn't so sure, so she decided to call Ryan to warn him about his student.

Vincent Moore was visited by Antonio, an angel, who told Vince it was his "mission" to protect Blake Thomas.

But Ryan was already making love to Alexis by the time Vanessa called, due to a spell cast by Zaliphyr, the demon that has been posing as Michael Thomas' ghost to get Blake to resurrect his brother. And when Antonio confronted the demon, an old enemy, Zaliphyr cast another spell to render Antonio unable to stop his nefarious plans for Marquette Cove.

Elsewhere in Marquette Cove, Michael Hanley delivered veiled threats to Vince; Damon Johnson told Alec that he has to pay for the damages on Damon's car, unless he wants Damon to reveal his secret relationship with Jessica to Vince; Matt planted drugs in Vince's locker; and Blake began to have strange nightmares.

Blake Thomas was attacked by Chris Server who wanted their relationship kept secret.

Zaliphyr gave Ryan a push in the direction of inviting Alexis to his bed. After making love all weekend, Ryan was shocked to discover what he'd done with one of his students. Ryan promptly kicked Alexis out of his house, leading her to a confrontation with a confused Samantha Clark, Ryan's girlfriend and fellow faculty member. Their confrontation ended with Alexis pushing Samantha down a flight of stairs. When Blake and his friend, Chris Server, found themselves kissing for reason unknown to them, Chris reacted violently by threatening Blake's life if he didn't keep the event a secret. Blake ignored Chris's threats, until Chris confronted him at school and badgered Blake until he collapsed in a stairwell. Unbeknownst to them, Damon was also in the stairwell listening to their conversation...

Elsewhere in Marquette Cove, Matt finally put his plans into action and got Vince kicked off the basketball team by planting drugs in his locker. Matt also revealed to Vince that Alec and Jessica were dating behind his back...Blake received a visit from the deceased Nicholas who told Blake that he needs to resurrect his brother as quickly as possible, or he may have to take a human life...Julia told Akilah about Alec and Jessica's relationship...Antonio discovered Zaliphyr speaking with Ronarr, a demon that Antonio previously believed to be dead.
