SEASON TWO RECAP
(2002 - 2004)

From #16 "Aftermath" (December 23, 2002)
to #114 "Empty Places" (April 16, 2004)

GC's second season premiered in 2003. It would be a year to remember for every person in Marquette Cove...

Alec Bale finally told his best friend Vincent Moore that he had been dating his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Reyes, behind his back for six months ... unaware that Vince already knew about their relationship. Vince did everything he could to get Jessica back in his life, ultimately causing the break-up of his relationship with Kelli Anderson.

Vince also became focused on his uncle, Derek Moore, convinced that he was hiding something that involved Michael Hanley. Their secret — that they were responsible for murdering Vince's father months ago — was revealed when everyone in Marquette Cove was hit with the strange urge to burst into song for two weeks. Matt Holden, Michael's nephew, overheard the two arguing about the murder and subsequently used that information to blackmail Derek.

Alexis Lopez tricked her English teacher, Ryan Phillips, into believing he had gotten her pregnant after the demon Zaliphyr made Ryan and Alexis sleep together. Ryan soon became sick of Alexis' games however, and forced her to get an abortion, which she faked.

Ryan tried to move on with his life since his girlfriend, Samantha Clark, was still in a coma after a violent fight with Alexis. He tried to rekindle a relationship with Vanessa Watson, his ex-girlfriend, and doctored the results of her child's paternity test to convince her that she was carrying his child. Michael blackmailed Ryan into proposing to Vanessa and then manipulated her into accepting. Alexis learned that she actually was pregnant and had an abortion, spotted by Allison Gellar.

Delusions from the abortion followed, but Alexis still obsessed over Ryan, stalking him and discovering that he'd switched Vanessa's paternity tests. Alexis ran into Allison, who threatened her. Alexis kidnapped and tortured Allison, believing that Allison had killed her baby. She shot Allison and dropped her into a sewer. Alexis later went into a coma and when she awoke, she had no memory of the past four months.

Alexis Lopez

Alexis Lopez faked a pregnancy and abortion to hold onto Ryan Phillips, only to later discover she actually was pregnant.

Blake Thomas resurrected his brother, Michael Thomas, by murdering Damon Johnson; a crime that led to Thomas's being controlled by Zaliphyr. Zaliphyr used Thomas to murder Blake's parents, but before he could do anything else, he was slain by the ex-angel, Antonio. Antonio, who had failed to stop Blake from resurrecting his brother, turned evil after being trapped in an alternate reality by Zaliphyr. Blake, while pursuing a relationship with Chris Server, was also dodging the police by framing Alec for Damon's murder.

Chris helped Ricard Branch leave Quentin Blood's drug organization so that he could pursue a relationship with Sara Reynolds. Unfortunately, he had no idea Sara was in a relationship with Erin Maddock. Once Ric left Blood's organization, his best friend Matt informed Blood of what he was doing, marking Ric as a target for Blood's latest scheme.

Leslie Moore returned home after a stint in rehab, trying to put her life back together. Vince and his sister, Akilah Moore, were overwhelmed. Akilah tried to get Alec to fall in love with her by using Matt to make him jealous. Akilah's best friend, Julia Mitchell, tried helping her get Alec, but only because she was still under the control of a spell put on her by Zaliphyr.

Blake Thomas

Blake Thomas killed Damon Johnson in order to bring his brother back to life. He framed Alec Bale for Damon's murder in order to cover his tracks.

Detective Joel Kincaid, Julia's father, moved to Marquette Cove, but his daughter wanted nothing to do with him. Julie urged him to move forward against Alec in Damon Johnson's murder case. Alec's father Robert Bale acted as his attorney, while his mother Felicia Bale was preoccupied trying to avoid Michael. Valerie Hanley-Holden, Michael's sister, became suspicious and confronted Felicia, who broke down and admitted that she was Michael and Valerie's half-sister. Valerie promised to keep Felicia's secret, but she had ulterior motives ... not to mention one hell of a problem involving the increasingly intense triangle between Michael, Felicia, and Robert.

As the year continued, Vincent Moore finally discovered that his suspicions about his uncle, Derek Moore, were true — Matt Holden informed Vince that Derek was responsible for killing Vince's father, while leaving out the fact that Matt's own uncle, Michael Hanley, was involved in the scheme as well. Vince tried to turn Derek over to the police, but Matt kept him from doing so by insisting that revenge would be much more satisfying if Vince took it himself.

Meanwhile, Antonio stepped up his plan to discredit Vince and turn his friends against him by posing as Vince and stalking his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Reyes. Vince unwittingly helped Antonio as he lied to the District Attorney and said that he was an eyewitness to Alec Bale threatening Damon Johnson's life on the day Damon was murdered. Vince was attempting to get Alec thrown in jail to keep him away from Jessica, but when Robert Bale confronted Vince about his allegations, Vince recanted his comments. Alec eventually became fed up with Vince and told him to go to hell, as did Jessica when she filed a restraining order against Vince for stalking her.

Vince was arrested for stalking before he could reveal to anyone the truth about Derek murdering his father. During this time, Leslie Moore also discovered the truth about Derek after Antonio planted damning evidence in her room. She confronted Derek and to keep her from revealing his secret to anyone, he knocked her unconscious and pumped her full of heroin until she overdosed and had to be taken to the hospital. Leslie had to return to rehab after it was assumed she fell off the wagon, and Vince was helpless to keep Derek from winning once again.

Michael bailed Vince out of jail and then offered Vince a place to stay in his mansion, while also blackmailing Jessica and her mother, Natalie, into dropping their criminal charges against Vince. Vince began using his place in the Hanley mansion to turn Michael against Derek and convince Matt to help him murder Derek.

Ricard Branch tried asking Sara Reynolds out on a date, after leaving Quentin Blood's organization to be a better match for her. But she turned him down and left Ric bewildered until Matt explained to him that she was bi-sexual and currently in a relationship with someone else. As it turned out, that someone happened to be Erin, the daughter of Melissa Maddock, who just happened to be Robert's law firm partner. Robert was having problems in his marriage with Felicia, as he became increasingly irritated with the amount of time Felicia was spending at the Hanley mansion. Unaware that Felicia was really Michael's sister and that she wasn't interested in him romantically, Robert assumed that his wife was having an affair, which led to repeated arguments among the couple. Robert eventually looked for comfort with Melissa, which resulted in them making love in his office.

Valerie Hanley-Holden, after learning Felicia's secret, devoted her time to ensuring that she became the sole heir to her father's fortune. Fueled by something her father did to her in the past, Valerie stole all of the files from her father's safety deposit box and took them to his storage department. She burned the files and the entire building, narrowly escaping the raging flames from her act of arson. Unbeknownst to Valerie, her entire scheme was caught on videotape.

Robert Bale

Robert Bale began an affair with his law partner Melissa Maddock after mistakenly believing that his wife, Felicia, was cheating on him with Michael Hanley. Robert had no idea that Michael was actually Felicia's half-brother.

Ryan Phillips was convinced Alexis Lopez was faking her amnesia to get away with murdering Allison Gellar, and struggled with attempting to murder her in her hospital room. Before he could do so, his fiancée Vanessa Watson asked Alexis to be a bridesmaid in their wedding in an attempt to get Alexis' memory back and find out what secrets Ryan was hiding from her. Michael, however, did what he could to prevent Vanessa from doing so, knowing that his part in the switching of Vanessa's paternity test would be revealed if Alexis' memory returned to her.

Vanessa Watson began preparations for her wedding, gaining a new friend in Kimberly Black as she picked out a wedding dress and sent out invitations. At Michael's urging, Ryan forced Vanessa to move the wedding date to April rather than June, and Vanessa reluctantly obliged while hoping she would uncover Ryan's secrets before she had to marry him. Vanessa began to feel guilty about manipulating Alexis when she visited Alexis' father to get the teenager released from the hospital for the wedding ceremony, but as the wedding began, Vanessa became determined to bring Alexis' memory back to her.

Quentin Blood decided to get revenge on Ric for leaving his organization, and to do so he needed to use Ric's friends against him. Quentin started by focusing on Chris Server, and as he had Chris followed, Quentin discovered the growing relationship between Chris and Blake Thomas. Quentin decided that by putting Blake's life on the line, he would be able to persuade Chris to return to his organization, so he had private investigator Colin O'Reilly murdered and tried to frame Blake for the crime.

Unfortunately, the only person who was framed for the murder was Matt, when Quentin's lackey mistakenly left the wrong incriminating photos in O'Reilly's motel room. Matt's father, Simon Holden, challenged Detective Joel Kincaid when his son was wrongfully accused of murder.

Matt Holden

Matt Holden found himself paying for crimes he didn't actually commit, when he was accidentally framed for Colin O'Reilly's murder and Blake Thomas attempted to frame him for Damon Johnson's murder.

Chris, unaware of the plot against him, took his relationship with Blake to the next level when they finally made love. This moment of happiness was fleeting for Blake, as the police began to step up their efforts to find Damon's murderer. The case against Alec was thrown out for lack of evidence, causing Blake to try and frame Matt. Before he could, Antonio decided to put Thomas into a coma when he believed Thomas to be behind O'Reilly's murder. Deciding Thomas was too much of a liability, he wanted him out of the way so that no one would find out Blake had resurrected his brother months ago.

Antonio had other problems as well, such as dealing with what was left over from Zaliphyr's tenure in Marquette Cove. Realizing that Julia Mitchell was still under Zaliphyr's control, he attempted to reverse the spell but was caught off-guard when Julia tried killing him. Antonio eventually gained the upper hand and knocked her unconscious, then reversed Zaliphyr's spell on her. Julia awoke with several events from the past year missing from her mind, and she sought comfort from her father as she attempted to find out what was wrong with her.

Realizing that something was wrong with him, Antonio skipped town until he discovered that when he killed Zaliphyr months earlier, Zaliphyr hadn't died. One of Ronarr's spells on Zaliphyr had caused the demon's essence to be transferred into Antonio, and now the demon could only manifest himself in Antonio's mind.

As Ryan and Vanessa's wedding grew closer, Michael prepared by deciding to kill Alexis if her memory returned to her. He also took drastic measures by ordering a hit on Derek when he decided that he was too much of a loose cannon. Before attending the wedding, Michael visited with Dr. Victor Collins in the secret laboratory in his basement…where his adopted brother, Sean Moore, was being held — he hadn't died in a car explosion like everyone in Marquette Cove assumed, because Michael had faked his death.
