MARQUETTE COVE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

"Answer me!" Blake Thomas shouted, spinning Chris Server around to face him. "Have you been selling drugs again? Are you the reason Kelli got shot?"

"Look, Blake," Chris said. "I can explain. I didn't mean for Kelli to get —"

Blake balled his right hand into a fist and swung at Chris, punching him in the face. Chris stumbled back and fell into a nearby wall, as Blake wrapped his hands around his neck and tried choking him.

"You tried to kill Kelli!" Blake cried. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Boys, stop it!"

Chris looked up to see Cyrus Anderson approaching them, as Blake punched him in the face again. Chris cried out and resisted the urge to fight back, as Cyrus took Blake by his arm and pulled him back.

"Blake Thomas, what do you think you're doing?" Cyrus demanded.

Blake stopped and looked over at Cyrus, still fuming from his altercation with Chris. "Kelli's in that room, Dr. Anderson. She could be dying!"

Cyrus's face fell. "Kelli? Blake, what happened?"

"She was shot," Blake said. "Because of…"

"There was an accident, someone fired a gun in the park," Chris said quickly, cutting Blake off. "She was with me, I don't know how it happened."

"Dear God…stay back," Cyrus said. "I have to go and check on my daughter."

Cyrus disappeared into the emergency room, leaving Blake and Chris standing alone. Blake stepped forward and pushed Chris against the wall.

"You're a damn liar," Blake said.

"Blake, can't you just —"

"I'm in love with you, Chris!" Blake cried. "How could you do this to me? How could you do this to Kelli? You lied to us…you lied to us!"

"I'm so sorry," Chris insisted.

"Take your sorry and go to hell," Blake snapped.

"Hey, what's going on here?" Robert Bale asked, approaching them while holding a phone away from his face.

"Kelli was in an accident, Mr. Bale," Blake said, glaring at Chris.

Robert sighed. "This night just keeps getting worse."

"What's wrong?" Chris demanded.

"Vincent is in a coma," Robert said. "And I'm afraid I have to get going, there's something happening at Melissa's house, I just got a call."

Blake nodded.

"Give everyone my best," Robert said, turning to Blake. "I'll be back to see about Vince as soon as I can."

LOMAN HOME

Officer Jamie Grady climbed out of his car and turned to look at everyone crawling around the scene before him. There were police officers coming in and out of the house, and the C.S.I. team was at work as well. There were even a few media outlets standing out on the sidewalk, attempting to find out what was happening beyond the yellow police tape.

Jamie approached the police tape and ducked under it, not bothering to show his badge off since everyone in the department knew him. He had been working closely enough with Detective Joel Kincaid that Jamie was in line to become a detective himself, he just had to go through the proper channels.

"Grady, glad you're here," Eric Winters, the head of the C.S.I. team, said as Jamie passed by him. "We've got quite the scene in there."

"What's going on?" Jamie whispered.

"Looks like a double homicide and a suicide," Eric replied.

"That's it?" Jamie asked. "Why are we keep this so tightly wrapped, then?"

"Maybe you should take a look at the victims," Eric said.

His interest piqued, Jamie headed into the house where he immediately saw the body of a young woman lying on the couch. She had a gunshot wound in her forehead, and her body was currently being inspected.

"Who's she?" Jamie asked.

"Lori Racine," Eric said. "There was an ID on her."

Jamie nodded and continued glancing around the living room, finally settling on another body on the floor. This one belonged to a man Jamie recognized. It was Duncan Kincaid, Joel's brother. Jamie sighed and turned back to Eric.

"Kincaid's brother," Jamie said. "Did someone call him?"

"No need," Eric said. "Take a look at the other body."

Jamie stepped forward and tried to look at the face on the body lying across from Duncan. He gasped when he recognized the face and stepped back in shock.

"Joel?" Jamie croaked. "Is he…is he…"

"He killed himself," Eric answered.

MARQUETTE COVE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Leslie Moore sat alone in her son's hospital room, holding his hand and praying for him to awake. Vincent Moore remained in the coma he had been in since he was brought to the hospital hours earlier, and his mother had been with him since then. She had already lost her husband recently, and she knew she couldn't stand to lose her son as well. Her daughter couldn't either, and Leslie knew she had to be strong for her.

"Come on, honey," Leslie whispered, attempting to reach her son somehow. "I need you to wake up. I know I'm being selfish, but I need you Vincent. Your family needs you here."

Leslie was interrupted when Simon Holden opened the door, carrying a clipboard. He walked toward her and frowned.

"I have Vince's test results," Simon said.

"I know," Leslie replied. "I want…I want Vince's family to be here."

"I can bring them in, if you'd like," Simon replied.

"No, we can go with them," Leslie said. "Julia Mitchell organized a vigil for Vince in the church and invited his classmates. If there's any news, I want them to hear it."

"All right, then," Simon said. "Let's head to the chapel."

Leslie set her son's hand back on his chest and rose to her feet. She put a stern look on her face to stifle her tears, and then Leslie followed Simon out of the room.

"If Kelli dies, I'll kill you," Blake said.

"I wouldn't blame you," Chris replied, talking candidly to Blake now that they were alone once again in the hallway. "I still love you, Blake."

"Shut up, Chris," Blake snapped. "It's not going to work. You lied to us for over a year, and now your lies have ended with Kelli getting hurt."

"Blake, I just —"

"You almost killed her!" Blake cried. "I have lost enough people for one lifetime, Chris! And you went and fucking did this to me again?"

"I'm sorry," Chris said. "That's all I can say."

Blake slapped Chris across the face, just as Cyrus exited the emergency room with Dr. Victor Collins behind him. Victor began to speak, but Cyrus rested his hand on Victor's shoulder and told him he could say it himself.

"Dr. Anderson, what's wrong?" Blake demanded.

"I'm afraid I have some bad news," Cyrus spoke solemnly. "Kelli is…my little girl…she's dead, Blake. We couldn't save her."

"Oh God," Blake gasped, holding his hand close to his mouth as if he were about to vomit. He could even feel it in his stomach, since the very thought of Kelli's death made him sick to his stomach. Especially knowing the circumstances surrounding her death. "This is all…this is all your fault."

"Blake, I tried everything I could to save her," Cyrus insisted.

"Not you," Blake said, turning to face Chris. "I meant him. He's the one who killed your daughter, Dr. Anderson. He murdered her."

MADDOCK HOME

Officer Summers glanced over at the paramedics, who had just declared Melissa Maddock dead. Not only she had died, but the child she was carrying had obviously died as well. He frowned and turned back to Felicia Bale. "Looks like your adversary is dead."

"Adversary?" Felicia demanded, still attempting to get over how the room was spinning after all of the alcohol she'd drank earlier that night.

"It's not a large town, Mrs. Bale," Officer Summers replied. "Word definitely got around about your husband having an affair with Ms. Maddock here."

"That's none of your business," Felicia insisted.

"I think it is," Officer Harris said, approaching Felicia with a bottle of prescription drugs he had found in Melissa's purse. "Looks like these pills are only taken during a certain kind of pregnancy."

"Well yes, Melissa is…was pregnant," Felicia said. "Oh God, the baby! That poor baby is dead too."

"Isn't that what you wanted?" Officer Harris asked. "These pills are for high-risk pregnancies. Did you come here to kill Ms. Maddock's baby so you could win your husband back? Is that what you came here to do?"

"I didn't try to kill anyone!" Felicia insisted, attempting to make sense of what was happening. Everyone was talking so fast, Felicia didn't want to say anything that would come out the wrong way. "I just…I didn't kill anyone!"

"Felicia Bale, you're under arrest," Officer Harris said. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law."

As Officer Harris read Felicia her Miranda rights, Robert Bale was led into the living room by another police officer. He glanced around the room and didn't notice Felicia immediately. The first person he noticed was Melissa, who was lying on the floor.

"Oh God, Melissa!" Robert cried, rushing to her side and dropping to his knees. "Oh my God, are you okay, honey? Melissa? Melissa, wake up!"

"I'm sorry, sir," Officer Summers said. "But Ms. Maddock is dead. And so is her child."

MARQUETTE COVE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Simon stepped into the hospital chapel with Leslie following him, where he found students from Marquette Cove Memorial Hospital sitting in pews praying for Vince. At the head of the chapel was a large photograph of Vince, which was surrounded by candles, flowers, and wreaths.

"This is amazing," Simon said.

"Thank you, Dr. Holden," Julia said, approaching Simon and Leslie. "I did the best I could. Alec and Blake helped, obviously."

Leslie smiled as she saw Blake and Alec standing near the front of the chapel, next to Michael Hanley, of all people. She hadn't known that Michael truly cared about Vince, but she was willing to accept that he at least didn't want Vince to die.

"Thank you," Leslie said. "I'm so glad all of our prayers are with Vincent right now. And even Kelli…God, I heard about her as well. There's so much pain in Marquette Cove tonight."

"Simon, do you have news?" Michael called out to his brother-in-law.

Everyone in the chapel turned to look at Simon, awaiting news on Vince.

"Yes, I do," Simon said. "Unfortunately, it isn't good…I'm afraid that Vincent may never awake from his coma."
