ABANDONED CHURCH

Julia Mitchell screamed as she landed on the grass outside the collapsing church, while Vincent Moore laid on the ground and allowed the wreckage from the church to cave in on him. Julia tried climbing to her feet so she could rush back inside, but Alec Bale grabbed her and pulled her back.

"Julia, don't," Alec said.

"Vince is going to die!" Julia cried. "He saved our lives, Alec! We just can't let him die!"

To his surprise, tears began to form in Alec's eyes. "He's gone, Julia…Vince is gone."

"No, he's not," Julia said. "I can't —"

Julia stopped talking as Blake Thomas began to regain consciousness. He groaned something unintelligible, drawing Alec's attention. Julia used the moment to rush back to the wreckage and try to find Vince.

Alec called out to stop her, but she ignored him and began sifting through large pieces of wood to find him. Julia cried out Vince's name, attempting to see if he could still respond to her. After what seemed like hours to her, Julia was finally able to find a hand beneath the debris.

Julia found that she was crying as well, but they were only tears of joy. "Vince! Hold on, we'll get you out of there!"

She turned back to Alec, who was tending to a now conscious but unresponsive Blake. He seemed to be ready to collapse onto the ground, and so Julia let Alec deal with Blake while she grabbed Vince's arm and tried pulling him out.

It took most of her strength, but Julia was finally able to drag Vince to the surface of the wreckage. She sighed and fell back onto the ground, as she stared out at the surrounding area of the lake next to them.

"Alec, call for an ambulance," Julia managed to gasp before she fell.

EMERALD LAKE

Kelli Anderson shut her mouth when Antoine, on the members of the gang known as the Vipers, pulled out a gun and aimed it at her. "What was that you just said?"

"Antoine, don't!" Chris Server cried, worried about his friend's life. "I'll get rid of her."

Frozen in fear, Kelli was finally unable to respond. Ricard Branch stepped in front of her, trying to move her out of the way, causing the remaining gang members, Mark and Darius, to pull out their own guns. Suddenly, Kelli found herself wondering why she had decided to interrupt the drug deal Ric and Chris were engaged in…why she had felt so compelled to stop Chris from making a horrible mistake.

"Hey, put the guns away!" Chris shouted. "I'll get rid of her!"

Hearing that all three had pulled out their guns, Ric removed his own gun from his waist and pointed it at the gang members as he spun around to face them. In reaction, Kelli closed her eyes as if to shield herself from what was about to transpire.

Her action was a failed attempt, however. She still heard the first shot when it was fired. Two more shots were soon fired, prompting the gang members to get away from the lake as quickly as they could. Once the area was clear, Kelli felt a pain in her chest. She glanced down and saw that she was bleeding from a gunshot wound.

"Chris," Kelli gasped, before collapsing onto the ground.

"Kelli!" Chris cried, dropping to his knees to help Kelli. "God, Kelli! Why did you have to make this happen?!"

He looked up at Ric, who was trembling as he held his own gun in his hands. Ric looked down at the bleeding Kelli in fear, and suddenly be flashed back to discovering Erin Maddock's dead body in one of the bathrooms at the Hanley mansion.

"Ric, help me out here," Chris said. "I need you to call for an ambulance."

"She's…she's dead," Ric said.

"She's not dead!" Chris cried. "Here, just take my gun and call the ambulance!"

Chris grabbed his own gun and handed it to Ric. Ric took the gun, and then backed away from him. He reached for his cell phone, but ended up dropping Chris's gun. Ric reached for his cell phone from his pocket, but it also slipped and fell.

"Shit!" Ric cried, bending over to pick up the gun instead. He stared at the phone for a moment as it began to ring. It was Quentin Blood calling them. "No…not him."

"Ric, don't freak out," Chris said. "Just call an ambulance!"

"I can't!" Ric cried, running away from Chris and Kelli while carrying both his and Chris's gun. As he ran, Chris called out after him to stop, but Ric didn't. Chris swore under his breath and tore off his sweater to try and stop the flow of blood coming from Kelli's body.

He then reached for Ric's cell phone to call for an ambulance himself.

MADDOCK HOME

Felicia Bale opened her eyes when she heard the sound of a loud siren approaching her. She weakly attempted to sit up on the couch she was resting on, having no idea where she actually was. She first assumed that she was in her own home, but glancing around Felicia realized that she was actually in Melissa Maddock's home.

She hadn't been there very many times, but Felicia could certainly recognize the place whenever she saw it. She tried climbing to her feet, but she still felt light headed. She was no longer drunk, it appeared, but she was still rather tipsy and the room seemed to be spinning.

Felicia rose to her feet and stumbled toward the chair, hearing the approaching sirens getting louder. As she moved, she found two legs sticking out from behind the chair. There was also a dark red liquid on the ground between them.

"Oh my God," Felicia gasped, nearly falling over the chair to see who was lying on the ground. As she fell, she saw that it was Melissa who was unconscious on the floor. She was wearing light blue pants, but it was apparently that there was blood dripping from them. "Oh my…what happened here?"

Felicia reached out to touch Melissa's face to see if she was breathing, but it felt could. She screamed and pulled her arm back as she heard a knock at the front door. Felicia stood up and tried to maintain balance, but she couldn't. She slipped and fell onto her back on the ground.

As the knocking at the door continued, Felicia kept screaming.

LOMAN HOME

Detective Joel Kincaid reached forward and grabbed the gun that was resting on the coffee table in front of him. He ran his fingers across the thigh of the young woman he'd kidnapped and brought to Arthur Loman's house, Lori Racine, and leaned in to kiss her again. Once he pulled away, Joel stood up and aimed the gun at her.

"You've been great, darling," Joel said. "Honestly, I wish I didn't have to kill you. But it's my brother, you see. I've got to send him back to jail…so…so long, Lori."

Joel pulled the trigger, shooting Lori in the forehead. He quickly spun around so he wouldn't have to look at the blood from the gunshot. He dropped the gun onto the floor and knelt next to his brother, Duncan Kincaid, to check his pulse.

"Oh…you're dead already," Joel muttered. "Well, that sort of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it? But that's okay…I can make my own fun."

Joel lifted his brother to his feet and pressed him against the wall. He smiled, and lifted the gun from the floor. He placed the gun in his brother's hand and then pulled the trigger, firing a shot into Duncan's forehead.

Duncan's dead body fell to the floor once more, and the gun slipped from his hands. Joel frowned and picked up the gun wipe his fingerprints from it, before placing the gun back into Duncan's hands.

As he tried to give Duncan the gun again to plant it on him, Joel accidentally pulled the trigger again. The bullet flew from the gun and hit Joel in the neck. He cried out and stumbled backward. He slid in a pool of blood and fell onto his back, hitting his head on the hardwood floor and knocking himself unconscious.

While Joel remained on the floor unmoving…blood continued to gush from his neck. Unlike most of his drunken binges where he collapsed and awoke in the morning, it wouldn't be happening this time.

MARQUETTE COVE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Cyrus Anderson entered the hospital room where Vincent Moore was being kept, while Simon Holden stood over the bed next a nurse checking Vince's IV. Cyrus glanced down at the unconscious teenager and frowned, wondering what had now happened to the young man who'd once date Cyrus's daughter, Kelli Anderson.

"What's the patient's status?" Cyrus asked.

"He's in a coma," Simon said. "And if I'm not mistaken, it isn't his first one. I'm afraid there's a chance there could be brain damage.

"Assuming he wakes up," Cyrus said. "Why don't we go ahead and run some preliminary —"

"What do you mean assuming he wakes up?"

Cyrus turned around to find Leslie Moore, Vince's mother, standing in the doorway with a grief-stricken look on her face. Cyrus frowned and approached her.

"Leslie, you shouldn't be in here," Cyrus said.

"I want to see my son," Leslie said. "Alec called and told me that he was here in the hospital and…oh my God, it's happening again, isn't it?"

"Leslie, please —"

"Why can't my family ever have peace?" Leslie demanded. "First my husband, and then his brother, and now my son."

"Your daughter probably needs you right now," Cyrus said. "Why don't you go outside and talk to her, if she's —"

"I can take care of it," Simon said. "Akilah and I have already gotten to know each other from when she was dating Matthew. I can talk you her if you'd like, Leslie."

"Thank you," Leslie said, approaching Vince's bed. "I just need a moment here with my son."

Simon nodded and exited the room, leaving Vince and Leslie here in the room. As he entered the waiting room outside, he found everyone waiting to hear news on Vince. Julia, Blake, and Alec were seated were they had been since first arriving at the hospital with Vince. Joining them were Vince's sister Akilah, Michael Hanley, and Robert Bale.

"What's the story?" Robert asked, approaching Simon.

"Fortunately, it's not as bad as it could have been," Simon replied.

"Come on, Simon," Michael snapped. "Just come out with it."

"Like you actually care about Vince," Robert said. "Who called you anyway?"

"I did," Akilah said. "I might not like it either, but Vince would want Mr. Hanley to be here, Mr. Bale."

"Can you all stop arguing?" Alec demanded, rising to his feet. "That's all you people ever do, all the goddamn time."

"Alec, don't talk to me like that," Robert said.

"Can I talk to your new girlfriend like that?" Alec asked.

Robert sighed. "Now is not the time, Alec."

"What's going on with Vince, Mr. Holden?" Julia asked, attempting to get everyone back on track.

"He's in a coma," Simon said. "I'm afraid that's all I can say at the moment."

While everyone took in Simon's new, Blake's attention was diverted by a commotion on the other side of the hospital. He stood up as he recognized someone's voice, where he noticed someone being wheeled into the hospital. Behind the gurney was his boyfriend, Chris Server.

"Chris?" Blake wondered aloud. "What's he doing here?"

MADDOCK HOME

Felicia sat on the couch, speaking to Officer Summers as he stood next to her scribbling comments into his notebook. The paramedics were attending to Melissa while the other police officer on the scene, Officer Harris, was looking around the living room.

"What's going on?" Felicia asked. "Why are the police here?"

"Just procedure, Mrs. Bale," Officer Summers said, glancing at the paramedics attempting to revive Melissa. "We have to cover all of our bases."

"But there aren't any bases to cover," Felicia said. "I don't know what happened."

"Have you been drinking?"

"Only a little," Felicia said. "I'm fine."

"How did you get here?"

"I drove…" Felicia began, her voice trailing off.

"And did you drive here?"

"I…I don't remember," Felicia lied.

"Do you mind going outside with me to see if the car parked in the driveway is yours?" Office Summers asked.

"I don't —"

"Call it."

Officer Summers glanced over at the paramedics, who had just declared Melissa dead. He frowned and turned back to Felicia. "Looks like your adversary is dead."

"Adversary?" Felicia demanded.

"It's not a large town, Mrs. Bale," Officer Summers replied. "Word definitely got around about your husband having an affair with Ms. Maddock here."

"That's none of your business," Felicia insisted.

"I think it is," Officer Harris said, approaching Felicia with a bottle of prescription drugs he had found in Melissa's purse. "Looks like these pills are only taken during a certain kind of pregnancy."

"Well yes, Melissa is…was pregnant," Felicia said. "Oh God, the baby! That poor baby is dead too."

"Isn't that what you wanted?" Officer Harris asked. "These pills are for high-risk pregnancies. Did you come here to kill Ms. Maddock's baby so you could win your husband back? Is that what you came here to do?"

MARQUETTE COVE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

As Kelli was wheeled into an operation room, Chris was told to wait outside. As he stood next to the door, Dr. Victor Collins approached him.

"Dr. Collins, please try to save Kelli," Chris said.

"We'll do our best," Victor said. "But I'm going to need you to take a seat and stay out of the way."

Victor headed into the operation room, as Chris turned to find Blake rushing toward him. Blake stopped when he reached Chris and gave him a hug, kissing him on the forehead without bothering to look around to see if anyone was watching.

"Are you okay?" Blake asked. "What's going on?"

"Everything's — God, what happened to your head?" Chris demanded. '

"I got some stitches, it's not big deal," Blake said. "Who was on that gurney?"

"It's…oh Blake, I'm so sorry," Chris said.

"Sorry about what?"

"It was Kelli," Chris said. "She was shot."

"She was shot?!" Blake cried. "What the hell happened?"

"Look, I didn't mean for it to happen," Chris insisted. "She came across me and my old gang, and then they thought she was going to interrupt the deal we…I mean…it's hard to explain."

Chris turned away from Blake, realizing that he had just spilled everything he'd been keeping secret from his boyfriend for an entire month. He sighed clenched his jaw, preparing for what was about to come next.

"What did you just say?" Blake demanded. "The Vipers? A drug deal? Are you…are you selling drugs again?"

Chris didn't respond.

"Answer me!" Blake shouted, spinning Chris around to face him. "Have you been selling drugs again? Are you the reason Kelli got shot?"

"Look, Blake," Chris said. "I can explain. I didn't mean for Kelli to get —"

Blake balled his right hand into a fist and swung at Chris, punching him in the face.

UNKNOWN AREA

The gloved figure who had been watching the citizens of Marquette Cove for months entered a dark room and approached the desk on the opposite side. The figure turned on a light at the table and viewed the six photographs resting on the table.

Vincent Moore was the first person on one of the photographs, followed by Kelli Anderson, Melissa Maddock, Detective Joel Kincaid, Duncan Kincaid, and Lori Racine. Smiling, the figure picked up the photographs of Joel, Duncan, and Lori.

Next to the photographs was a bowl filled with flames, where the three photographs were soon burned to ashes. The gloved figure picked up the picture of Melissa next and began to burn it, all the while keeping a close watch on the photographs of Kelli and Vince.

"Soon enough."
