CHAPTER ONE "I know what you're doing here."~ Brandon Flowers The smoke encrusted room would normally be enough to cause Damon Johnson's lungs to explode within his chest, but seeing as how he no longer had to worry about things such as breathing...he barely noticed the smoke except in realizing that it was difficult to see the woman standing before him. He waits as Imani, the beautiful Ebony woman who led him to the office he currently stands in, speaks to the man behind the mahogany desk.
"Thanks..." Damon says, his voice trailing off as the smoke clears in the room and he gets a full view of... He almost thought the man was a myth. A legend that people spoke about in whispers. He knew he was a drug dealer in town, but few people had ever seen him. He was a recluse who lived in an actual fucking castle near the lake in Marquette Cove. "Damon," Quentin says, smiling widely. "It's a pleasure to meet you." "Uh, likewise," Damon answers. "Thanks for the lifeline." "No, you're dead. You're very much dead. But the good news is...so am I. So we have that in common." "I'm dead." "Yes," Quentin says. "And I'm here to make you an offer. One that will also repay me for the great gift of keeping you from burning in hell for an eternity." Damon nods. "An offer." "To get revenge on the person who killed you," Quentin offers. "The person who saw fit to upset the power balance in town and shift it out of my favor." "Blake Thomas." "Yes," Quentin says. "Do you want to know what he's done with your heart? The heart he ripped from your body?" Damon shakes his head. "He plans to bring his brother back from the dead," Quentin responds. "And I want you to kill him before that happens." "If you're so big and powerful...why don't you?" Damon asks. "Not to...um, be rude." Quentin smiles again. "Because when I brought you back, you made a deal with the devil...and I have you to do what I want." |
