Marquette Cove Courthouse

Court Room. Felicia Bale stands next to her attorney, Nathan Orlando, across from Robert Bale and Melissa Maddock.

NATHAN: It's the big day.

FELICIA: I'm just hoping Robert and Melissa don't have any surprises planned.

NATHAN: Don't worry about them, things are going to great.

FELICIA: You know, I thought we'd be able to handle this like adults, but Robert...he's suing me for custody of our son. Of Alec. Claiming that I'm an unfit mother.

NATHAN: Felicia, there is no evidence of that. The police report of you driving intoxicated the night of Melissa's accident was never properly filed, other than that, it's all conjecture and hearsay.

FELICIA: I hope you're right.

NATHAN: I know I'm right.

Melissa sets her briefcase on the table and opens it, removing her files.

MELISSA: The day we've been waiting for, Robert.

ROBERT: Yes. The day that Felicia's going to regret taking away our chance of having a child. She's going to lose Alec. The house. Everything.

Robert removes a DVD from his briefcase.

ROBERT: And Felicia's comeuppance? Is right here.

Lobby. Akilah Moore enters, finding Alec Bale pacing back and forth.

AKILAH: Alec.

ALEC: Hey, Akilah.

AKILAH: How's it going? [Beat] That was a stupid question. This is your parents' divorce hearing.

ALEC: I'm fine. I'm just waiting for all of this to be over.

AKILAH: Right?

ALEC: What did you want?

AKILAH: I just wanted to make sure that things weren't weird for us, because of our kiss. I mean, I'm not expecting anything to -

VINCE: Pardon me?

Vincent Moore enters, frowning and folding his arms.

VINCE: What'd you just say?

AKILAH: Mind your own business, Vince.

VINCE: You're my sister. This is my business. [To Alec] What's going on? Are you trying to manipulate my sister again?

ALEC: Vince. Come on, I thought we'd moved past this. You accusing me of everything under the sun.

VINCE: And I thought you'd moved past using my sister and Jessica like tennis rackets.

AKILAH: It was only one kiss. It didn't even -

ALEC: Last that long, which I'm sorry for. Because...it was really good.

Alec takes Akilah's hand and kisses her again.

VINCE: Good grief.

Reynolds Home

Foyer. Sara Reynolds enters and takes a look at herself in the hallway mirror, adjusting her hair. As she goes to the open the door, she finds Ricard Branch about to ring the doorbell.

SARA: Ric!

RIC: Hey.

He kisses her.

RIC: Are you ready?

SARA: Ready for what?

RIC: To go to your aunt and uncle's divorce hearing.

SARA: Oh. Oh, Ric, I told you that you didn't have to come with me. Not with Alec and Darren there, practically ready to stab you with their pitchforks.

RIC: I know. But you know what? I don't even care. I just care about being with you.

SARA: Ric...

RIC: I know, that's why you love me, right? Say no more.

He takes her hand.

RIC: Let's go. Don't want to be late.

Moore Home

Living Room. Leslie Moore enters from the kitchen, drinking a glass of orange juice as the doorbell rings. She sets the glass down on the coffee table and walks to the door.

LESLIE: I wonder who...

Leslie opens the door, finding Michael Hanley outside.

MICHAEL: Good morning, Leslie.

LESLIE: Michael. What are you doing here?

MICHAEL: I came to accompany you to the divorce hearing.

Leslie steps outside and takes a look around.

LESLIE: Are there hidden cameras? Are pigs flying? Did one of them hit your windshield this morning?

MICHAEL: Amusing. I know that you'll be there to support Robert and Felicia, being the family friend you are, whereas I will be there to support my sister. I'd love it if you would join me, so it doesn't merely look like I'm there as a preying vulture.

LESLIE: But, you are. A preying vulture, that is.

MICHAEL: Leslie.

LESLIE: Well, it's true, Michael.

MICHAEL: That really hurts, Leslie.

LESLIE: I'm sorry. [Laughs] Boy, that sounded weird.

MICHAEL: Leslie. Honestly.

LESLIE: [Sighs] Fine. All right, all right, I won't argue. Come on in, I'm almost ready.

MICHAEL: Thank you, very much.

Michael enters, closing the door behind him.

Anderson Home

Kitchen. Blake Thomas enters the kitchen, where Kelli Anderson and Morris Anderson are eating breakfast.

BLAKE: Morning.

KELLI: Blake, what are you all dressed for?

BLAKE: The divorce hearing. I promised Alec I'd be there. [Beat] And I'm going with Darren.

KELLI: Aww.

MORRIS: That's romantic. A date at his aunt and uncle's divorce hearing.

KELLI: Let's not talk about anyone else's court cases, shall we?

BLAKE: What's going on?

KELLI: Our favorite delinquent here was arrested the other night, in a drug bust.

MORRIS: That shit was entrapment.

KELLI: Of course it was.

BLAKE: Do Mr. and Mrs. Anderson know yet?

KELLI: No. But our mom's a judge. I'm sure she's going to find out soon enough.

MORRIS: I can't deal with this right now.

Morris stands up.

MORRIS: I'm gonna go for a drive.

KELLI: Have you told your little girlfriend yet? I'll bet she thinks it dangerous.

MORRIS: Don't worry about Julia, you Old Maid.

The wall phone rings. Blake picks it up.

BLAKE: Hello? [Beat] Yeah, he's right...oh. [Beat] Yes, I'll put him on now.

Blake lowers the phone.

BLAKE: Morris, it's for you.

MORRIS: Who is it?

BLAKE: [Ominously] Judge Anderson.

KELLI: I'm gonna go and get dressed.

Kelli exits.

BLAKE: Yeah, me too.

Blake hands Morris the phone and exits. Morris reluctantly raises the phone to his ear.

MORRIS: Hey mom...
