Thomas Home

Front Lawn. Kelli Anderson knocks on the door, hoping to get a response.

KELLI: Come on, Blake, where the hell are you?

Kelli's cell phone rings. She answers.

KELLI: Hey, what's up, Morris? [Beat] What? How in the hell did you lock yourself out of the house? [Beat] No, don't climb in through the window, the last thing I need is for you to get arrested. [Beat] Fine. I'm on my way home.

Kelli exits. A few moments later, the front door opens and Michael Thomas steps outside.

THOMAS: Kelli! Where'd she go?

Marquette Cove Memorial Hospital

Hospital Room. Michael Hanley enters, closing the door behind him. Mark Zane is sitting on an examination chair, with his face buried in his hands.

MICHAEL: Why so sad, Mr. Zane?

MARK: Leave me alone.

MICHAEL: Look at me when I'm talking to you, you little punk.

Mark raises his head.

MARK: Mr. Hanley.

MICHAEL: That's right. You've decided to mess with a Hanley. Would you mind telling me what game you were trying to pull?

MARK: No.

MICHAEL: The police are on their way in. I think I might sue you if they don't arrest you for filing a false police report. I'd much prefer to sue you...I don't think your parents could handle that.

MARK: Leave my parents out of this.

MICHAEL: I ought to fire them. Hanley Enterprises does not need those type of employees. Those with ungrateful children who don't know where their loyalties lie!

MARK: I didn't do this to get back at you! Although I should have! Because my parents? Already lost their jobs this week!

MICHAEL: Oh.

MARK: Yeah. Oh.

MICHAEL: Well, at any rate, I can make things very difficult for them still.

MARK: Go ahead. [Beat] I did this to get back at Vince.

MICHAEL: What?

MARK: I hate him! I came to the party to kill him, but I accidentally shot myself, okay?

MICHAEL: Oh my...I was wrong about you. You don't deserve to be arrested, you're absolutely certifiable.

MARK: I'm sorry.

MICHAEL: No you're not. But you will be.

Michael turns to leave. He opens the door.

MARK: By the way, that secret room you've got in your mansion. What's that all about?

Michael closes the door.

Lobby. Melissa Maddock is standing in front of an elevator. She presses the button again, waiting impatiently for it to arrive. When it does, the doors open and Felicia Bale exits.

MELISSA Felicia! What are you doing here?

FELICIA: I came to schedule a check-up for Alec.

MELISSA Oh. Well, I'm here for a check-up myself.

FELICIA: Oh, really, where's Robert?

MELISSA I don't know, he...I'm sure he's working.

FELICIA: [Smiling] Yes, I'm sure he is. Working. Work was never more important to Robert than his family when we were having Alec. Of course, when work suddenly started becoming very important, that should have been my first scene that he was cheating on me with you.

MELISSA It's a goddamn check-up, Felicia. Robert is not needed here. I'm not going to continue to apologize for that, Felicia.

FELICIA: Oh. No need. I'm just entertaining the thought that Robert might not be working at all. Maybe, just maybe, he's not that into you. [Beat] Have you had a chance to read that book, by the way? They mentioned it on Oprah.

MELISSA Robert is not cheating on me, Felicia.

FELICIA: Of course he isn't. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Melissa.

Felicia tries to exit, but Melissa grabs her arm.

MELISSA Robert is very devoted to me! We're getting married.

FELICIA: Oh. A wedding in the spring, I've heard. A lot can happen in a few months, Melissa.

MELISSA Actually...we're getting married in December! Just before Christmas.

FELICIA: Since when?

MELISSA [Unconvincingly] Since always. You must have had your information wrong, as usual.

Felicia smirks. She exits.

MELISSA Bitch.

Melissa presses the elevator button again, but now notices that it's on the third floor.

MELISSA Oh, for Christ's sake.

Maddock Home

Living Room. Robert Bale is lying on the couch, taking a nap. He is interrupted by the doorbell ringing.

ROBERT: Huh?

Robert sits up on the couch. The doorbell rings again.

ROBERT: I'm coming! I'm coming!

Robert staggers to the door and opens it. Darren Reynolds is standing outside.

ROBERT: Darren. What do you want?

Robert returns to the living room. Darren follows.

ROBERT: Well?

DARREN: Alec asked me to stop by.

ROBERT: Well, he's not here. Try his cell phone.

DARREN: Uncle Robert...can we talk?

ROBERT: About what?

DARREN: You're upset with me.

ROBERT: You're right. You embarrassed me at that party.

DARREN: Because I'm gay? You shouldn't be embarrassed.

ROBERT: I shouldn't have had to find out like that! I should have had to find out that my nephew was gay like that.

DARREN: What about Sara?

ROBERT: She's dating a nice young man right now.

DARREN: That nice young man is a drug dealer.

ROBERT: [Ignoring him] Of course, this has been my life, lately.

DARREN: What?

ROBERT: I mean, first I find out my wife has been lying to me for years...

DARREN: I'm sorry, Uncle Robert. I'm sorry that you feel this way. But...I'm not going to change for you. I can't change. This is who I am.

ROBERT: I was taking a nap. Are you finished?

DARREN: [Softly] Yeah. I'm finished.

Darren exits.

Emerald Lake

Bench. Vincent Moore is sitting down, staring at the water.

VINCE: Money hasn't changed me at all. I don't know what the hell Akilah is talking about.

Vince sits silently, trying to meditate. As he does, Thomas enters, walking near the bench.

THOMAS: [Softly] This where my parents...where they died. I think I might have killed them. [Beat] Oh, hi Vince.

Vince turns his head.

VINCE: Hey Thomas. [Beat] Wait a minute...Thomas! Michael Thomas! You're alive!

THOMAS: I know.

VINCE: Oh, well of course you do, I just meant...this is news to me. Does Blake know? Does anyone else know?

THOMAS: No. And I'm going to keep it that way.

VINCE: What?

THOMAS: I was...somehow I was brought back to life. I don't know how that happened.

VINCE: I do. Blake told me everything. You fell back into a coma.

THOMAS: It was hell, Vince. I was remembering all of the things I did when Blake brought me back. The things I've done to hurt him. To hurt others.

VINCE: I don't think any of that was your fault.

THOMAS: Regardless. The things I did in St. Laurent, I did on my own.

VINCE: St. What?

THOMAS: You don't know what I'm talking about?

VINCE: No.

THOMAS: Never mind then. It's best you don't...it'd be hard to explain. [Beat] Anyway, I know what I have to do know. It's the only option I have left.

VINCE: What's that?

THOMAS: I have to leave Marquette Cove. And never come back.
