Emerald Palace

Dining Room. Leslie Moore is seated across from Michael Hanley at a table.

LESLIE: Thank you for treating me, Michael.

MICHAEL: It's the least I could do for the mother of my favorite houseguest. And of course, my sister-in-law. [Beat] I'm sorry.

LESLIE: It's fine. It's not as if I don't think of Sean every day.

MICHAEL: But I shouldn't have...never mind.

LESLIE: How are things? With Vince?

MICHAEL: Things are great. He's really taken to living at the mansion, and considering our tumultuous family past, that's a lot.

LESLIE: Yes. It is. But I really think things are turning around. That we're all becoming closer...we can all begin to trust one another.

Leslie extends her hand and takes Michael's.

LESLIE: Trust is very important to me.

MICHAEL: Of course. Considering.

Michael's cell phone rings. He answers.

MICHAEL: Hello? [Beat] Riley? What's the matter? [Beat] Arrested?! For...the bail has been set at what?! [Beat] Well, this is certainly outrageous. [Beat] No, I'll be right there.

Michael hangs up the phone.

MICHAEL: I'm afraid I must be going.

LESLIE: Oh, of course. Of course. Go.

Marquette Cove Memorial Hospital

Stairwell. Morris Anderson is standing next to Chris Server. Morris is holding a wad of cash in his hands.

MORRIS: Thanks for doing this, man.

CHRIS: No problem. It's just, next time, not at the hospital, all right? I'm already on thin ice.

MORRIS: Yeah. Cool, no problem.

CHRIS: Is that seventy?

MORRIS: That's right.

CHRIS: Good.

Hallway. Blake Thomas stands at an elevator, pressing the button repeatedly.

BLAKE: Dammit! First my stupid check-up takes all day, now this damn elevator won't...whatever. I'll take the stairs, I'll take the stairs.

Blake walks to the stairs. He opens the door, just in time to see Morris and Chris exchanging cash for drugs.

MORRIS: Whoa! Blake!

CHRIS: Blake...I can explain.

MORRIS: Yeah, man, it's not like it's -

BLAKE: I guess you're fine with the guy who almost got your sister killed then, huh?

MORRIS: This is just business.

BLAKE: Yeah. Business. Whatever.

Blake starts to exit.

CHRIS: Blake, wait!

BLAKE: Leave me alone, Chris.

Blake exits.

Bale & Maddock Law Offices

Foyer. Alec Bale enters, carrying drinks from Starbucks and sets them down on the desk where Darren Reynolds is seated.

ALEC: Anything?

DARREN: Nothing we didn't already know.

ALEC: Damn.

DARREN: Thanks for the coffee.

Darren takes a drink from Alec.

ALEC: No problem. [Beat] You know, there's got to be something we're missing. Ric is not squeaky clean. He's a creep. We've just got to find something on him.

DARREN: He used to be a drug dealer, that's it. Sara already knows that, and she's not running to dump him anytime soon.

ALEC: Yeah.

DARREN: Maybe...maybe she knows what she's doing.

ALEC: She doesn't.

DARREN: You sound just like your father.

ALEC: What?

DARREN: Never mind.

ALEC: [Concerned] Darren, you shouldn't listen to my father. About you being...

DARREN: Gay?

ALEC: Yeah. My father's got no room to judge people for what they've been since birth, all right? Apparently, he was born into infidelity. And royally screwing up our family.

DARREN: Thanks, Alec.

ALEC: Eh. What's family for?

Marquette Cove Police Department

Jail. Riley Schaefer stands as Joel Kincaid enters and unlocks his cell.

RILEY: Joel, what's going on?

JOEL: Michael has arranged for you to be let out on bail.

RILEY: Without an arraignment?

JOEL: He's Michael Hanley.

RILEY: Right. I always forget.

JOEL: And between you and me, this arrest is kind of premature. This kid, Mark or whatever, hasn't even been checked out at the hospital yet. He's here in the station, one of my officers is gonna drive him over.

RILEY: Thanks.

MICHAEL: Don't bother thanking him.

Michael enters.

MICHAEL: That boy should have been checked out before this arrest was made. What kid of a station are you all running?

JOEL: I apologize, Michael.

MICHAEL: Of course. Be sorry. Be sorry that everyone here seems to have a vendetta against honest, hardworking people.

JOEL: No, just the ones with the last name Hanley.

MICHAEL: Riley, let's go.

Thomas Home

Basement. Blake enters, walking down the stairs until he gets to where his brother, Michael Thomas, is lying.

BLAKE: Thomas. How are you doing?

Blake sits down on the edge of the couch, running his fingers through his brother's hair.

BLAKE: Thomas...I wish I knew what was wrong with you. I wish you could wake up and come back. After everything we've been through, all I did to bring you back...this isn't fair. This coma, this thing...it isn't fair.

Blake begins to cry, but he stops himself after a few minutes. He wipes away his tears and stands, walking back to the stairs. Blake exits.

When Blake is gone, Thomas' hand begins to twitch. After he moans softly, Thomas opens his eyes.

THOMAS: Blake...are you...where am I?
