Bale & Maddock Law Offices

Alec Bale reached into his pocket and removed a set of keys, one of the keys belonging to his father. Alec had a key to his father's office in case of emergencies, and this was definitely an emergency in Alec's mind.

Though he had gotten sidetracked, making out with Farrah Louis earlier during his lunch break, Alec had planned to arrive at the office while Robert was in court dealing with divorce proceedings and Melissa was on a leave of absence following her hospital stay. Alec didn't know why, though, since she had apparently been fine enough to defend Chris Server of all people after he tried killing Kelli Anderson.

But Alec was through caring about other people's problems. He had enough of his own to deal with — his father was ruining his family, his mother couldn't stay away from Michael Hanley, and his cousin was dating a drug dealer.

"Sara," Alec muttered, unlocking the front door and walking inside. "Ric is bad news, but you're not going to believe me until I can prove it to you."

Alec closed the door and approached his father's office, hoping that he would find enough about Ric's past involvements with the law for Sara to leave him for good. Alec had a duty to his family to protect them from every person in Marquette Cove that was now trying to break them up. He wasn't going to let his family end up like Vince's. He was going to stop all of that before it happened.

Once Alec reached Robert's office, he went inside and sat down behind his dad's desk. Alec then opened the cabinet next to the desk and began to search for files with Ric's name on them.

Marquette Cove High School

Julia Mitchell entered Marquette Cove High School, removing the pair of sunglasses she had on. She'd just gotten back from the hospital after a relatively routine check-up, and now she was late to her afternoon Theology class. As she approached her locker, Julia saw Jessica Reyes at the end of the hallway talking to Timothy Black.

"She just doesn't know when to quit, does she?" Julia muttered.

"I guess not."

Julia turned around and found her best friend, Akilah Moore, leaning against the wall with a solemn look on her face. Julia sighed and walked toward Akilah.

"Don't worry about them, Akilah," Julia said. "Someone needs to give Julia thirty-five cents to buy herself a clue. Tim isn't interested in her, trust me."

"I'm not so sure," Akilah said. "They've been spending a lot of time together lately."

"It doesn't mean anything," Julia said. "Jessica hangs over anyone with a y chromosome."

"Just like Alec?"

"This isn't about Alec," Julia insisted. "This isn't the same thing."

"How can it not be?" Akilah demanded. "I keep falling for people who are taken, or aren't interested in me?"

"Tim is interested in you, so stop beating yourself up over it," Julia said. "I'll handle Jessica Reyes, okay? Tim isn't interested in her, and he never will be."

Anderson Home

"Hold on, let me get the door," Vincent Moore said, taking a set of house keys from Blake Thomas and unlocking the front door. Behind them, Morris Anderson was helping his sister Kelli out of the family's car.

"Are you okay, sis?" Morris asked.

"I'm fine," Kelli insisted. "I just want to get in and get some sleep in my own bed. Those hospital beds are uncomfortable."

"I know," Blake and Vince answered in unison.

"How about we reminisce inside?" Morris asked. "We'll get Kelli to sleep, then I'll stop by the school and pick up her homework."

Vince frowned. "Boy, that sounds fun."

"I asked him to," Kelli said. "Some of us like our grade point."

"Blake, get Kelli inside," Morris said. "I need to talk to Vince for a minute."

Blake nodded and took Kelli's hand, helping her into the house. Vince stood on the doorstep, turning to look at Morris.

"Look, if this is going to be some speech about me staying away from your sister now that you're back home, spare me," Vince said. "I don't take orders well. Especially from someone who dropped out of Berkley."

Morris narrowed his eyes at Vince. "Bitch, can you shut up while I talk? All I was going to tell your ass is that I'm glad you've been looking out for Kelli and keeping Chris away from her. I know you two dated, but I'm glad you're still friends."

"Oh," Vince said, slightly taken aback. "Then…thank you, I guess."

"You're welcome," Morris replied.

Blake returned from downstairs to find Morris and Vince entering the living room. Morris closed the door and looked around the living room for Kelli.

"Where's my sister?" Morris demanded.

"Upstairs," Blake replied. "I took her upstairs myself. She's changing right now."

"I'll go up and make sure she gets to sleep," Morris said, approaching the stairs.

Before he could reach the stairs, a loud vibrating sound started in the living room. He glanced around in confusion, wondering where it was coming from. Vince turned his eyes to the coffee table and noticed a vibrating cell phone.

"It's Kelli's cell phone," Vince said.

"Oh, I set it there with her purse before I took her upstairs," Blake explained.

Vince walked over to the cell phone and picked it up to see who was calling.

"Who is it? My mom?" Morris asked.

"No…" Vince said, his voice trailing off.

"Then who is it?"

"It's Chris," Vince said.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Aaron Maddock asked, standing above his cousin, Melissa Maddock.

She was seated on the couch in his office, nervously holding onto her purse. Melissa took a deep breath and sat her purse on the floor, while leaning back on the couch.

"Yes," Melissa said. "I have to find out what's wrong with me."

"Melissa, I can tell you what's wrong with you," Aaron insisted. "You're grieving. Erin died, and then you suffered a miscarriage. It's only expected."

"But why am I seeing Erin everywhere I go?" Melissa demanded. "And why do I sometimes have the feeling like I'm still pregnant? Like something is growing inside me?"

"I'm not sure hypnotism is the answer."

"I want to do it, Aaron," Melissa snapped. "Are you going to help me or not?"

"Fine," Aaron said softly. "I'll help you."

Aaron turned around and approached his desk, sighing softly. He just hoped that what Melissa uncovered in her subconscious wouldn't come back to bite him in the ass.

"Did you say Chris?" Blake asked, suddenly feeling lightheaded.

He gripped the railing of the stairs to keep himself calm, not wanting to let on how upset he'd become over the mention of Chris's name. It was hard enough trying to get over Chris when they both went to school together, but harder to when he keep having to run into him elsewhere.

"I'm not going to answer it," Vince said.

"No, give me the phone," Morris said, outstretching his hand.

Vince handed off the phone to Morris and allowed him to answer it. When he answered the phone, Morris had an intent glare on his face that even scared Vince.

"Why are you calling my sister?"

"Morris…I need to speak to Kelli," Chris said.

"No, you don't," Morris snapped. "And I'm going to give you some advice. Don't call my sister again. Don't speak to her in school. Don't let me catch you out on the street either, because I will beat your ass within an inch of your life, understand?"

"Look, you don't understand —"

"Conversation's over, bitch," Morris hung up the phone and tossed it back to Vince. "I'm going to check on my sister."

Morris walked up the stairs, leaving Blake and Vince alone in the living room. Vince turned to Blake and saw him frowning.

"I'm sorry, Blake," Vince said.

"About what?" Blake asked.

"Look, I know it's still a secret, so I'm not telling anyone," Vince replied. "But…I know you still love him."

Blake sighed. "How could I?"

Blake turned and exited toward his bedroom.

Bale & Maddock Law Offices

Darren Reynolds returned to his uncle's office, carrying lunch for himself so he could finish the notes he had to electronically file on Robert's computer. The walk to and from the Bun Shack was surprisingly the highlight of his day, since he was the only person in the office.

Fielding phone calls was hardly a substitute for a conversation with someone, either. But hopefully his sister, Sara, would be stopping by the office after she got out of school for the day.

As Darren unlocked the door to the building, he realized that there was a light on in his uncle's office. Darren paused for a moment as he tried to remember whether or not he had turned off the light. He didn't need to answer the question, however, when he noticed someone was sitting at Robert's desk.

"Uncle Robert?" Darren called out, entering the office. "Is that — Alec?"

"Darren," Alec said. "It's good to see you."

"What the hell are you doing in here?" Darren demanded. "You can't look at those files."

"Oh, cousin…there's a lot you need to learn," Alec said. "I'm doing this to save someone's life."

"Whose?"

"Your sister's."

Blood Home

Blood Home

Chris Server angrily hung up his phone and shoved it into his pocket. He was going to find a way to see Kelli and explain things to her, he just needed to be alone with her. It didn't help that her family had practically guarded her hospital room to keep him out after Chris was given community service for his involvement in Kelli's shooting.

He also needed to keep Kelli away from Vince, since he was once again butting his nose into her business. He had even managed to get Blake, Chris's ex-boyfriend, on his side.

"Why does everyone hate me?" Chris wondered aloud.

"Because you nearly killed one of Marquette Cove High School's beloved students?" Quentin Blood asked, entering his office. "Or is it because you're working for me again?"

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about," Chris said.

"I got you off, you know."

"You what?"

"I talked to the judge. I'm the reason you're not serving a life sentence right now," Quentin said. "Or God forbid, on Death Row."

"I didn't murder anyone," Chris said.

"Regardless, after everything I've done for you, you've come to me to once again leave my organization," Quentin said, taking a seat behind his desk. "You want to turn your back on me again, don't you?"

"It's not that, it's just…I can't do this," Chris said. "I'm trying to rebuild my life."

"I understand," Quentin replied. "Which is why I'm going to give you two options."

"And what are those options?"

"The first is that you do exactly what I ask of you today," Quentin answered.

Chris took a deep breath. "And the second?"

Quentin smiled. "I kill you."

Marquette Cove Memorial Hospital

"Melissa, can you hear me?" Aaron asked, sitting in a chair next to his half-conscious cousin.

"I can hear you," Melissa said, speaking in a soft voice as she was now deep into the state Aaron needed her in for hypnotherapy.

"Good," Aaron said. "Now, I want to talk a little about Erin. Do you miss her?"

"Yes, I miss my daughter."

"Do you often see her now?"

"Yes, I…I do."

"Why do you see her?"

"She tells me that…that she's still with me."

"She is?"

"Yes," Melissa replied. "That there's still someone here with me."

"And who is that?"

"My son."

"The son you miscarried, Melissa?" Aaron asked.

"I didn't…I didn't miscarry him," Melissa insisted, becoming agitated.

"What do you mean, Melissa?"

"I gave birth to my son," Melissa said. "But he was…he was…"

"He was what, Melissa?"

"He was taken away from me," Melissa said.

Aaron gasped and stood up, walking away from his cousin. "Oh my God," Aaron said, attempting to catch his breath. "She still remembers."
