THE HIGHWIND RESORT
LOBBY

Lori Racine opened the door leading into the Highwind Resort's lobby, allowing Duncan Kincaid to stagger in carrying his brother, Joel. Duncan laid his brother on a couch and checked his pulse again to see if he was breathing.

"He's still alive," Duncan said. "But I hope to go that we're able to save him. He was electrocuted pretty badly by that ice forcefield."

"What's going on here?" Monique Champlain demanded, approaching Duncan and Lori. "Lori, where were you last week when I was looking for you to help with the fashion show?"

"That was last week?" Lori asked.

"But the fashion show was earlier today, wasn't it?" Duncan asked.

"No, it was last week," Monique insisted. "Now, what's going on here?"

"Joel was electrocuted," Duncan explained.

"Oh dear…you tried to get past the forcefield that's surrounding all of St. Laurent, didn't you?" Monique asked.

"We didn't know," Lori said.

"Well, you know what killed the dinosaurs? The ice age," Monique said. "We don't play around in the ice here. I can't tell you how many times I've walked out there and fallen every five steps I take."

"God, I can't believe I was hanging from a sheet of ice for a week," Lori muttered.

"It sounds crazy, I know, but that's just St. Laurent," Monique said. "Now, let me see if I can help you with your brother."

"What can you do?" Duncan demanded.

"Well, when I was backpacking in Eastern Asia over the summer, I was able to learn mystical remedies to save someone's life after they've been electrocuted by an ice forcefield," Monique said. "I've never been able to use it until now, but I hope it works."

VINCENT MOORE'S ROOM

Vincent Moore leaned forward and kissed Kelli Anderson on the lips, while running his fingers across her arms. They were lying in bed together, both wrapped in a blanket and continuing to kiss each other, even as the alarm went off next to their bed.

"Jessica," Vince mumbled, moaning as he and Kelli made out.

"Blake," Kelli said in response, under the belief she was making out with Blake Thomas, the brother of her deceased ex-boyfriend.

Both were still asleep, and had no idea who they were actually making out with, although they wouldn't be able to deny the chemistry they had with one another if they were awake. They did date each other for two years, after all.

Kelli began to unbutton Vince's shirt, as she rolled on top of him. At that moment, Kelli's eyes opened and she realized who she was making out with. "Oh my God."

Kelli rolled over onto her back and sat up, hitting Vince in the head to wake him up. Vince's eyes widened and he glanced up at Kelli.

"Ow!" Vince cried. "What'd you do that for? I was sleeping!"

"Do you have any idea what we were just doing?" Kelli demanded.

"No, I was sleeping," Vince replied. "Do I need to spell it out for you?"

Kelli nervously climbed out of bed, wrapping the bed's blanket around her body and starting toward the door. "I need to get dressed."

"Um, okay?" Vince said, confused. "What's going on?"

"Nothing," Kelli said. "I'm just going to…go to my room and get some clothes. Take a shower. Do something productive."

"There's not much we can do when we're being held prisoner at a ski resort," Vince reminded her.

"Maybe I'll go skiing," Kelli suggested. "I have to go."

Kelli opened the door and slipped outside into the hallway. She slammed the door behind her, and took a deep breath before heading to her own hotel room.

GISELLE ORMAND'S OFFICE

Isoke sat in Giselle Ormand's desk, watching the video screens located behind a secret wall in the room. She grinned and ate from a large bowl of popcorn as she watched Kelli leaving Vince's room in shock.

"Quite the show," Rory Kahn said, materializing in the office. "What is this, Skinemax?"

"Very cute," Isoke said. "Maybe you should be sitcom writer. Or some type of daytime television comedian."

"I'm glad you're mocking my job," Rory replied. "I've been following these seven prisoners around for weeks, for what, exactly? This isn't a reality show. I'm not directing any proceedings."

"You'll see what you're useful for soon enough," Isoke insisted. "Trust me. But for now, you should work on keeping track of our seventh mystery guest, Michael Thomas. Because if any of our other guests discover that he's here at the Highwind, our plans might fall apart."

Rory sighed. "We should have kept him at the other compound."

"He escaped into that snowstorm," Isoke reminded him. "We had to pump him full of tranquilizer darts to control him."

"Well, don't worry about any of that," Rory said. "I'll keep him under control…or else we may have to enact the next phase of our plans."

Isoke smirked. "Actually…I've really no problem with that."

HIGHWIND CAFE

Michael Thomas stood near the bar in the Highwind Café and noticed as Kelli walked in and sat down at a table alone. As a waiter came by, she asked for a glass of ginger ale and then turned to stare out the window. Thomas backed out of Kelli's view and ducked behind a door so he could keep a close watch on her.

"So, she finally left Vince's bed to get some air," Thomas muttered. "If I just told her I was here, that would be the end of that. She'd leave Vince alone and forget that she started dating him while I was on my goddamn death bed."

He watched as Kelli received her drink and took a sip from it while rubbing her forehead to calm herself down. Thomas ducked out of the Café and hurried outside through a back door in the hotel, then crossed over to a window to keep staring at Kelli.

"Kelli…I love you," Thomas said. "One day I'll show you how in love with — oh shit…is she looking at me?"

Thomas froze as Kelli's eyes with his own.

"She's looking at me," Thomas gasped, disappearing from the window.

Inside the Café, Kelli rose to her feet and hurried toward the backdoor leading to Lake Logan. She had to find out if the person watching her was who she thought it was.

LOBBY

Monique finished saying a mystical chant to revive Joel, and hoped that the mound of snow she had brought from outside would be useful in reviving him, much like it had when she had to save lives in the snowy mountains of Eastern Asia.

"Is it working?" Duncan asked.

"We'll find out in a few seconds," Monique said, pressing the snow against Joel's face and whispering a word in Eastern Asian into his ear.

Lori and Duncan took one another's hand and silently prayed that Joel would be okay. A few moments later, Joel began to cough up the snow that had been shoved down his throat. He sat up on the couch and turned to look at Monique.

"What…what happened?" Joel croaked.

"Don't move," Monique said. "You've had quite a shock. Literally."

"I'm fine," Joel insisted. "I need…I need some water."

"I'll have someone bring some to your room, you need rest," Monique said. "But you two…you were great in saving Joel here. How would you like jobs here at the Highwind?"

"Jobs?" Lori asked. "I don't think we —"

"We'd love to," Duncan said, elbowing Lori.

"Good," Monique said, rising to her feet and leading Joel to his room. "Let's go upstairs, Detective Kincaid."

Once Monique was out of earshot, Lori turned to face Duncan. "Why the hell did you do that?"

"If we have jobs here, then we can find out what's really going on at the Highwind," Duncan said.

"But, that job offer came out of nowhere," Lori insisted. "What if it's some type of trap?"

"How much of a trap could it be, Lori?" Duncan demanded. "We're already being held prisoner. If whoever is holding us here wanted to kill us, then they could already."

"People always say that," Lori snapped. "Some people like to torture their victims first!"

Duncan frowned. "Maybe you're right."

"Maybe?" Lori demanded.

"Maybe!" Duncan cried. "I don't know. Jesus. I need a nap."

"Huh? That came out of nowhere."

"Kind of a running theme today, I guess," Duncan muttered.

LAKESIDE

Kelli stepped outside into the snow, wrapping a scarf around her neck as she searched for the person who had been watching her through the window. She found footprints in the snow outside the window.

"A footprint," Kelli gasped, approaching the window. "Why do I feel such a strange connection to this footprint? And why did I just say I felt a strong connection to a footprint?"

Kelli followed the track of footprints into she finally saw someone crouching behind the building. Kelli started toward the stranger, when a gust of wind hit her in the face, knocking her onto her back.

Kelli cried out as she slipped into the snow, and the ice beneath her on the ground began to crack. She rolled over onto her stomach and tried clawing at the ground to keep from falling through the ice.

"Kelli!"

Kelli turned her head to find Michael Thomas, the person whom she thought had been watching her, standing before her. He raced toward Kelli's fallen body and grabbed her arm to lift her from the ice.

"Oh my God, Kelli, are you okay?" Thomas asked, embracing her. "I thought I had lost you!"

Kelli stared at Thomas with a horrified look on her face.

"Kelli, what's wrong?"

"You're…you're dead!" Kelli cried. "You weren't brought to the island with us!"

"Island?"

"Ski resort," Kelli said, correcting herself. "You weren't brought to the Highwind Resort with us! You died three years ago, Thomas!"

Thomas remained silent for a moment, and then he saw an opening to keep the other guests from discovering his identity. "I…I didn't die two years ago, Kelli."

"What?" Kelli demanded. "You had cancer, Thomas! I was there when you were pronounced —"

"Kelli, I'm not Thomas!" Thomas said quickly, cutting her off. "Don't you recognize your best friend?"

"What?"

"It's me, Blake," Thomas lied. "I'm not my brother, Kelli. It's Blake. I only arrived here at the hotel a few days ago."

"Blake?" Kelli asked. "You're…oh, Blake! I thought…I thought I'd never see you again."

Kelli hugged Thomas again, trying to fight back tears to keep them from freezing in the snow. She smiled for the first time in days, grateful that her best friend was now in this place with her. Even if it meant that they were now both being held prisoner in some foreign land by someone who had yet to reveal themselves.

"I'm just glad to see you, Kelli," Thomas said, hating himself as he continued to lie to Kelli about his identity. "I'm just so glad to see you."
